Hi Folks,
Haven't reported this on time. Last week I was lucky to receive a successful reply from Alan Wilder (ex DEPECHE MODE).
I am really happy about this particular success because DEPECHE MODE was my favorite band #1 for many years. And by the way - DEPECHE MODE has been declared the NUMBER ONE BAND OF ALl TIME by KROQ FM (Los Angeles most popular radio station) Although Alan is now pursuing his other project alone - RECOIL, he is still what I think a music genius and really talented man.
What is great about him is that he was behind music in many Depeche's most impressive songs including "Enjoy The Silence", practically all "Violator", "Music for the masses", "Black Celebration" and other CDs. He left the band after their last 'DEVOTIONAL' tour, when Dave (band's solist) managed to collapse and almost killed himself in a drug overdose. Many predicted that DEPECHE will not live and probably Alan, tired of all that and pissed off, when he unable to control situation within the band - he left. He started his RECOIL project, where he does all the sound work and playing on variety of instruments while co-working with different performers to get their vocals. RECOIL is really kind-a dark music and VERY different from what you hear in DEPECHE MODE. But RECOIL managed to attract many DEPECHE's fans, who actually were really addicted to Alan himself. Personally I do like RECOIL work, but I still consider a DEPECHE time the best music.
Well, interestingly DEPECHE MODE survived. Dave cured himself from drugs (did he?:). And the band in 1999 (or was it 1998) issued an "ULTRA" CD without Alan. It sounded a bit different, but it's still was DEPECHE MODE. As a final comment it has been noted several times by many sources that DEPECHE MODE fans are MOST DEVOTED fans in the world. Ok Enough of DEPECHE...
A great thing about Alan though is that despite that other DM band members almost impossible to get ( I tried but NOT succeeded) Alan is VERY MUCH OPEN towards his fans - he answers most of questions on website and usually very fine to sign autographs. He also personally dictates and signs letters that he sends in reply to letters sent to him.
